Renovation & Design 101 Teams

Nine elementary schools are piloting Renovation 101 and Design 101 Teams this year. Renovation 101 and Design 101 Teams aim to incorporate "green" infrastructures with instructional strategies and train E=USE2 students as liaisons to the school community on the benefits and functionality of sustainable, high performance components of the renovation. Students at Mary Todd, Clays Mill, Millcreek, Cardinal Valley and Breckinridge Elementaries meet with architects, contractors and engineers each month to learn hands-on the hows and the whys of their schools renovations. Students examine site plans, analyze renovation schedules, use models to understand the demolition and construction procedures, utilize architect rulers to scale new classrooms, discuss the importance of contour lines to stormwater runoff design and take hard hat tours. Students who serve on their school's Renovation and Design 101 Teams will ultimately develop a short presentation to perform to their faculty, PTA, SBDM and Open House events.
